The youngest of three children, Marcie was born in Billings, Montana and moved to Brunswick at the age of five. She lived on the Georgia coast until 1988, at which time her family relocated to Greenville, South Carolina. Marcie attended Erskine College where she received her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Elementary Education. She then went on to complete her Master’s Degree in Education from Lander University, and she obtained her National Board Certification as an Early Childhood Generalist in 2004. After teaching first grade in Greenwood, South Carolina for eight years, Marcie moved back to Glynn County in 2005. She taught first grade at Altama Elementary School for two years and was the Instructional Coach there for four years. In 2008, she completed her Education Specialist Degree with a concentration in Brain-Based Teaching and Learning Strategies. In 2011, she accepted the position as Director of Wesley Weekday Education Ministry, which under her leadership has become Wesley Academy of Early Learning. She is a member of Wesley United Methodist Church at Frederica and has served as the Adult Sunday School Superintendent, taught Sunday School to K-1st grade students, volunteered at Vacation Bible School, acted as Co-President of the Hay Women’s Circle Group, led several women’s Bible studies, coordinated baby showers for Wesley’s newest additions, and volunteered in the infant and toddler nurseries.
Marcie resides on St. Simons Island with her two dogs, Toby and Gracie. She enjoys gardening, reading, shopping, traveling, going to the beach, riding her bike, and spending time with her niece and nephews.
Nikki’s varied background in the hospitality industry, cosmetology field, and the childcare profession have provided the perfect foundation for her current Assistant Director position. Passionate about Wesley Academy of Early Learning and its possibilities, Nikki provides various services that help parents, teachers, and students to maximize their experience at our preschool. A big believer in Christian education, Nikki strives to build relationships with the families at Wesley through her contagious smile and warm spirit. When she is not helping the little “whales”, she enjoys spending time with her husband of eleven years, her three school-aged children, and her adorable puppy.
Jennifer has been a teacher at WAEL since 2002 and has had the opportunity to work in a variety of age groups through the years. She is a proud mother of four wonderful children who keep her very busy. Jennifer loves playing sports, going to sporting events, taking her kids hunting, and relaxing with her family and friends on the beach. Jennifer’s nurturing spirit and positive attitude allows her to make each day special for all children.
Wrenn is from Macon, Ga and has lived in Glynn County since 2012 and has worked at WAEL since September of that year. Wrenn has been working with children since 2004 and has worked with several different age groups from the infants to pre-k. She enjoys working with children and hopes to have some of her own someday soon. Wrenn is currently working on her CDA and going to college to complete her degree in Psychology. Wrenn and her husband Josh married in 2013, and they live in Brunswick with their two dogs. She enjoys spending time at the beach and being with her family and friends. Wrenn loves working at WAEL and cherishes the strong bonds that she forms with the children and families here. She often says that although this is one of the most challenging jobs she’s ever had, it’s also her favorite and the most rewarding.
Tiffany was born in Nebraska and lived in the Midwest until her family moved to Newnan, GA when she was 6. She attended Georgia Southern University (Go Eagles!) where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. She met her husband, Mead, in Statesboro, and they moved to SSI where they are raising their 3 wonderful children-Jake, Lucy, and Will. Tiffany loves spending time with her family and also enjoys traveling, running, skiing, reading, baking, and bike riding. She started as a sub here at Wesley Academy of Early Learning in 2013 and is so excited to be entering her 3rd year as a teacher now. She is grateful for the opportunity to teach, nurture, and enjoy the precious children who spend their days with us at WAEL.
Tayler is an Elementary Education major, and she’s no stranger to Southeast Georgia. She grew up in Folkston but moved here two years ago with her husband Kyle and daughter Emma. As a teenager, she tutored and babysat in her spare time, and soon after graduating high school, she became youth pastor at her church. These endeavors have paved the way for her teaching career. She looks forward to growing and pouring knowledge and love into the children here at Wesley.
Samantha grew up in Warner Robins, Georgia and graduated from the University of Georgia with an A.B. in English. While in college, she developed a love for the communities of St. Simons and Brunswick as an intern with the Gathering Place. After graduating and spending some time traveling and teaching in South Asia, she decided to make St. Simons her home and has been at Wesley ever since. In addition to being a teacher at the Wesley Academy of Early Learning, Samantha is also the Associate Director of Youth at Wesley. She is honored to work on the team of amazing teachers at WAEL and to be able to see her students of all ages learn and grow in their faith and share Jesus’ love with the people around them. When she’s not at Wesley, Samantha enjoys riding her bike around the island, requesting holds on library books, and listening to too many podcasts.
Melissa joined Wesley in the fall of 2005. She has thoroughly enjoyed being a Lead Teacher for the Three-year-olds for the past few years. Originally from Ohio, Ms. Melissa migrated to Atlanta as a young adult. She attended the Dekalb Center for the Performing Arts and studied Art History at Armstrong Atlantic State University. Melissa has her CDA credentials. She has a passion for all creative arts, animal welfare and traveling. She’s engaged to Johnny, her best friend of 15 years.
Ms. Melissa has such a great love for educating and nurturing our young children. She has an open mind to match her open heart, so please feel comfortable sharing your thoughts and concerns with her.
Kait was born and raised in Buffalo, NY and moved to Saint Simons Island in March 2011. She got married to her husband John Monczynski in May 2015. They have two dogs and are looking forward to start having a family. Kait went to school at Kent State University and has a Bachelors degree in Speech Pathology & Audiology. Kait has always known that she’s had a passion to work with children and is thankful she ended up at Wesley Academy in 2012. She has experience in all age groups as well as special needs and loves learning from each age group every year. In Kait’s personal life she has a love for going to the beach, shopping, traveling, cooking, watching football (Go Steelers!) and spending time with friends and family.
Jan joined the Wesley team in the spring of 2009. She is a native of St. Simons Island and a graduate of the University of Georgia, where she met her husband, Alan. She holds a teaching certificate from Mercer University. During her first year teaching in 1995, Jan was awarded the Sallie Mae First Class Teaching Award from the state of Georgia. She spent 7 years teaching kindergarten and 1st grade in the Sumter County School System. She is the creator of the children’s newspaper, Itty Bitty Info, which was in publication from 2000-2011 and has now become the main curriculum in her Pre-K classroom. Jan also tutors children after school during the week. While tutoring she has discovered new and more effective teaching methods to use in her classroom. Music, dance and songs are very big learning tools in her classroom because they make education much more fun and memorable! Her children include her son, Shep, and daughter, Charlotte. She has two black cats, Pilgrim & Elphaba, a dog, Chilly, and a rabbit named Coco. Out of the classroom, she enjoys riding her bike, going to the beach, and listening to music.
Ashley was born and raised in the Golden Isles. She graduated from Brunswick High school in 2003 and then attended a private college. For more than a decade, she has served as a caregiver for numerous local families as well as worked in the cosmetology industry. She enjoys crafting, party planning, attending concerts, and spending lots of time with her son, Ashton Gray. Ashley’s creativity, enthusiasm, patience, kindness, and love for children are what inspired her to seek a career working with children. She began working at WAEL the summer of 2012. As a doting mother and teacher, she strives to show her students the abundant blessings in life.
Angel has been at Wesley Academy of Early Learning since June 2010. She has enjoyed working with every age group while at WAEL. Angel earned her CDA, holds a Para Professional certificate in SC, and has an Associate’s Degree in Business Management. Prior to working at WAEL, Angel worked for nine years in North Augusta, SC at Hammond Hill Elementary as a Kindergarten Aide. She also taught Sunday School at Grace United Methodist Church. Angel and her husband Mark have been married for over 30 years and are the proud parents of two grown daughters Leanne and Nicolette and proud grandparents to Sailor. Angel enjoys going to the beach and spending time with her very active family.
April, mother of sweet Fiona, grew up in the Golden Isles and is very excited about spending this year serving the highest cause, children, at WAEL this year. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts from the University of Georgia and a Master of Science in Design from Arizona State University. April is currently working on CDA credentials and is looking forward to incorporating her diverse education and experiences into her teaching career. April has practiced Elimination Communication, Cloth Diapering, Baby Sign Language (ASL), and “Mommy and Me” (Baby) Yoga with her daughter. She taught “Baby & Me” yoga, as a Yoga Alliance registered (200RYT), licensed, insured, and First Aid/CPR/AED certified teacher. April receives great joy playing outdoors, practicing yoga, and especially celebrating life with little ones. She believes that every child is a stunning light in this world, deserving of compassion, education, and creativity.
Maggy was born and raised in Warner Robins, GA and received her Bachelor’s from Georgia College and State University. She has lived in the Brunswick area for the past couple of years with her husband Zach.
She started teaching at Wesley Academy in 2014, and loves being a part of the WAEL family! She has always had a passion for working with kids and has experience babysitting, mentoring, tutoring and nannying. In her free time, she enjoys going to the beach, reading and spending time with family and friends.
Krista moved to the Golden Isles from Oregon in September 2007. Her teaching career at WAEL began in February 2016. She has had the opportunity to work with all age groups and has come to love all the children. Krista’s goal in life has always been to work with children and to help them learn as they grow. Her interest in children started in high school where Krista took multiple courses in childcare. As a teen, Krista worked as a Youth Leader for her church and babysat for friends and family. Krista is currently working on completing her Child Development Associate (CDA) degree. She is happily married to her high school sweetheart, Ryan, and they have a son named Brody. In her spare time, Krista loves to fish, travel with her family, and trying new restaurants.
Tonya was born and raised in Bainbridge, Georgia. Her love of the ocean took her to St. Simons where she resides with husband Bo and Jackson. Tonya started working at Wesley Academy in 2015. She loves watching the children learn new things and experience life. It is Tonya’s belief that some of the most important things when working with children are: love, patience and flexibility.
Beth lives in St. Simons Island, Ga with her sweet husband Robie and beautiful daughter Myla. She attended College of Coastal Georgia where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Coastal Ecology. Beth has experience working with a variety of age groups and loves learning from each child. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family, going to the beach, and traveling.
Originally from North Atlanta, Ms. Amber and her family came to Wesley in 2008. Both of her sons, Connor and Brennen, attended the after-school program. She has worked with children for over 18 years and feels blessed to have the opportunity to guide and teach our little ones. Ms. Amber is also a licensed cosmetologist. She loves to spend time with her family as well as participate in her hobbies, which include costume design, hair and makeup.
